Our playlist ranking enables you to rank and compare more than 6 million playlists according to their overall or local performance on DSPs and use customizable filters to get valuable insights. It displays the evolution of a playlist’s audience in volume or percentage for a given period, ranging from 28 to 90 days.

The best part is that you can also try out this feature with a free account, gaining access to the first 50 playlists of the ranking!

How to understand the playlist ranking

Metrics include:

  • Followers: number of followers on a chosen platform

  • 28-day adds: percentage of track added in the last 28 days

  • Owner: playlist's owner or creator

  • Playlist type: Algorithmic, curated, editorial, etc.

  • Track count: number of tracks in the playlist

  • Track age: the recency of the tracks featured in the playlist (Catalog, Frontline, Mixed)

  • Last updated: last date to which the playlist was updated

Audience includes 3 values:

  • The first number in white represents the size of its fanbase for the platform listed at the top of each column.

  • The second number indicates the evolution of its audience in volume.

  • The last number measures this evolution in percentage.

According to the example above, Today's Top Hits, a Spotify Editorial playlist, has over 34.97M followers. In the last 28 days, it has gained more than 47.9K followers, an increase of 0.14%. Additionally, 24% of the playlist (12 tracks as the playlist counts 50 tracks) has been added in the last 28 days.

How to sort the ranking

  1. Choose to focus on the total figures or the most significant change in volume or percentage of a playlist's audience;

  2. Choose a period to study;

  3. Use any column to rank playlists and organize the sorting.

How to filter the ranking

To refine your analysis, you can filter the playlist ranking by the playlist's platform, country, and column metrics seen above as sorting tools.

Focus on the playlist genres filter 🎵

Genres are defined based on the genre of the playlist's featured tracks. We list the genres that account for at least 5% of tracks on the playlist. You can select one or several genres to focus on those that interest you

Focus on the track age filter 🧓

The Track age of a playlist is determined by the release dates of the songs featured. It is qualified as:

  • “frontline” if over 75% of the tracks were released less than 18 months ago;

  • “catalog” if less than 25% of the tracks were released more than 18 months ago;

  • or “mixed” if neither condition applies.

Focus on the playlist type filter ⚙️

The Playlist Type filter showcases how the playlist has been created.

  • "Charts": based on the actual performance of the featured tracks

  • "Editorial": created by editors or curators from the given DSP

  • "Algorithmic": made by an algorithm based on listening from the users

  • "Curators & listeners": privately own playlists with a strong influence on music listeners

Some examples ⤵️

Focusing on Spotify playlists from the United States featuring pop music and having 200k to 300k followers, we want to understand which playlist has the most change in added tracks, as indicated by the red arrow at the top of the second column. Soda has the most 28-day adds (44.74), followed by undercurrents (33%).

Focusing on Deezer Playlists from France featuring R&B and having between 500K and 2M fans, we want to understand which ones get the most significant change in fans' volume. Over the last 90 days, Funkadão has had the biggest change in Deezer fans, gaining 8.8K fans.

Export data in .csv

You can export up to 50,000 lines of displayed data in .csv. To do so, click Export CSV and receive data per email. The .csv file contains the playlist's data organized per metric in total value, growth, and growth percentage

😻 Our users love it 😻

Jobs like A&Rs, playlists, radio curators, distributors, or festival and radio programmers want to discover new playlists. Their main focus relies on playlists with a high potential for 28-day adds.
